Di Cao Qing — Premium Yixing Zisha Clay

Di Cao Qing is the top-tier Zini from the deepest vein of Huanglong Mountain, Yixing.
Identifiable by natural “chicken-eye” mineral flecks in raw ore, it fires into elegant purplish-brown with subtle sparkling sand grains.
Its superior double-pore structure balances heat retention and air circulation, harmonizing the flavour of nearly all tea varieties.

Since major historic mines are permanently closed, authentic pure Di Cao Qing has become rare and highly collectible among tea and Zisha enthusiasts.

Best for: Shu Pu'er, aged white tea, Hong Cha, Liu Bao, Dark oolong.

Full Detailed Description

The Monk’s Hat pot (Seng Mao Hu) draws inspiration from ancient monk cassock headwear, a classical shape steeped in oriental Zen aesthetics. This version adopts a six-sided hexagonal structure, pushing the complexity of form-making to another level.

Many misunderstand semi-handmade as machine-made. We would like to clarify: semi-handmade Zisha teapots remain handcrafted works. Only the base mould assists shaping; all trimming, sculpting, fitting of spout, handle, lid and rim are finished entirely by hand. The craftsman still spends immense time refining every detail.

Craft Difficulty

The six-sided monk hat design brings tremendous challenges:

1. The undulating, wavy crown rim must maintain uniform radian on all six facets. Uneven curves will ruin the symmetrical aesthetic.

2. Hexagonal bodies demand precise angle control. Slight distortion during drying and firing easily causes warping or lid misalignment.

3. The lid is multi-layered hexagonal nested construction. Every layer needs perfect concentricity to achieve a tight, seamless fit.

4. Spout and handle have to match each panel’s contour, balancing visual weight across all six sides.

A dignified shape merging Zen charm and rigorous craftsmanship, ideal for collectors who appreciate traditional Chinese teaware.

Capacity:

Approximately ~110ml

Craftsmanship | Handmade with the help of the mold

This teapot adopts top-tier semi-handmade craftsmanship. A simple mould is only used to speed up the preliminary shaping of the pot body and ensure uniform, consistent aesthetics across every finished piece. The overwhelming majority of the production work is still completed meticulously by hand, retaining the texture and soul of pure handmade artistry.

Semi-handmade ≠ cheap craft. Value, beauty and tea experience are everything. A teapot’s true value depends on clay grade and craftsmanship, not labels.

Genuine semi-handmade Zisha is a traditional auxiliary craft, not industrial mass production.
